Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Warren Barguil: "I want to do a last Ardennes classic"

The fourth monument of the season, Liège-Bastogne-Liège closes the Ardennes Classics campaign this Sunday.

“I am attached to the history of cycling and it is always a special moment to tackle a Monument like Liège-Bastogne-Liège where I have already finished twice in the top ten (6th in 2016 and 9th in 2020). After a first part of the season that was a little bit complicated, I am happy to have found some sensations and confidence during the Flèche Wallonne. I want to finish the Ardennes triptych well and that means a good performance on the Doyenne which will be my last race before the start of the Giro d’Italia. The race is long (258 kilometres) and the difficulties will follow one another until the finish. I know that I can count on a good Arkéa-Samsic team and I had confirmation of that on Wednesday. I can’t wait to immerse myself in the atmosphere of the race.”

“I participated in the U23 edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège. It ended at the Côte de la Redoute, had some similarities with the professional version and is a foretaste of what I will face on Sunday. A last reconnaissance of the course tomorrow will allow me to better understand its difficulties. I feel quite good since the beginning of this Ardennaises campaign. I learn from each UCI World Tour event I participate in. The Amstel Gold Race and the Flèche Wallonne were two long and tiring races. We have to expect something similar on Sunday to help Warren finish this triptych well.”

Yvon Caër, sports director

“After the Flèche Wallonne, we are approaching this Monument that is Liège-Bastogne-Liège with confidence and humility. On the Ardennes roads, our team showed a good homogeneity and the boys were all united. The Doyenne is a demanding race and to be present in the final, we will have to show a similar state of mind over the 258 kilometres of racing. By finishing tenth on Wednesday, Warren has found some confidence that he was missing at the beginning of the season. I know that he will want to do well and put in a good performance before the Giro.”
