Amaury Capiot 9th in Dunkerque

Amaury Capiot finished 9th in Dunkerque, at the end of the final stage of the Tour de France in the Nord. Kévin Vauquelin retains his leader's jersey as best young rider.

We can be proud of the way we raced today. Raúl and Ewen worked really hard to keep Arnaud and me at the front of the pack. We didn't catch any wind. The final was very nervous with a lot of crashes, but unfortunately Arnaud was hampered by the crash that occurs in the last few kilometres. The team then switched, and I went into sprinter mode. I finished 9th, which was something we had to do because of all the hard work put in by the whole team. We can be happy and proud of the way we rode, being constantly at the front of the pack. Top 10, given my current capabilities, I'm happy.

Despite the fact that the wind was blowing from the side, the start of the stage was fairly calm. It started to get more and more nervous with the headwind. Everyone was on their toes, and there was more and more braking. It was a bit tense. At the five-kilometre mark, the nervousness in the peloton went up another notch. Unfortunately, there were a few crashes. Arnaud was bothered by one and I saw Remco Evenepoel go to the ground. I was really nervous. I tried to enjoy the white jersey today because it was a stage with less ‘sporting pressure’ for me. The public were chanting my name, which is something exceptional. I enjoyed the moment. We're not going to lie to ourselves, it's a beautiful jersey. We're entering Normandy on Tuesday, and some friends have sent me videos of the final of this fourth stage. It's going to be sporty. What's certain is that it's going to be down to the legs, so we'll see what the condition is like tomorrow.

Amaury Capiot took 9th place on this stage. Arnaud was the sprinter for the AERKEA-B&B HOTELS team and was well placed all day. The team was united around him and always well placed in the front of the peloton. Unfortunately, he was stopped by a big crash five kilometres from the finish line. We then switched to his fish driver Amaury Capiot, who also came very close to the final crash. So we're satisfied this evening that none of our 8 riders were caught up in the crashes. Kévin retains his white jersey as best young rider and remains 4th in the provisional overall classification of the Tour de France before returning to his Normandy homeland tomorrow.
