At the end of an eventful fifth and final stage, Océane Mahé finished 2nd on the stage and 6th overall in the Volta a Portugal Feminina.

We'd been circling victory since the start of the race and on this final stage we played for all it was worth. We set up a break at kilometre 40, and then a group of around fifteen riders, including Océane, broke away on a climb with 30 kilometres to go. Unfortunately, most of the other riders were able to bridge up to the front thanks to a race twist. Océane played her card to the full in the final climb. She was caught out 50 metres from the line and had to make do with 2nd place on the stage. She finished 6th overall. We've worked really well this week and we've won a lot of places: 3 2nd places, 1 3rd place, 1 4th place and 6th overall. That's good, but we came here to win, not to take second place, even though it's always good to have a say in the race.

On this fifth stage, a big selection was made on a climb with around 30 kilometres to go. I was the only representative of the team to switch to the front of the race. Being isolated in this breakaway group, I tried my luck from the foot of the final climb, under the red flame, so as not to regret anything. A competitor managed to hang on and overtake me in the final metres. Personally, second place on the stage is satisfying. It shows that despite breaking my collarbone in the spring, I'm back in good shape. However, I'm disappointed not to be able to give the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team this victory. We came here with this ambition and it leaves a certain taste of unfinished business. With five Top 5 finishes in as many stages with three different girls, we've shown that we've got a solid, close-knit team. This week will give us good momentum for the next few races, especially the Tour de France, which is just around the corner.
