Kévin Vauquelin still best youngster

10th in Rouen on Tuesday, on the first stage in Normandy, Kévin Vauquelin will wear the white jersey of best young rider for the time trial in Caen, on his home ground. This will be his third stage in this distinctive jersey.

When things accelerated sharply at the foot of the Rampe Saint-Hilaire, on the final climb of the day with less than 5 kilometres to go, unfortunately I wasn't in a good enough position and suffered a few breaks. When I'm up against the champions, I don't have much of a margin. Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard were the strongest today. When you lose a wheel or a bike, you can't come back on them, so I concentrated on my effort and gave it my all right up to the top of the climb. I do have one small regret about the descent, and that's that I didn't put in the extra effort to catch up with the leading group. In any case, thank you to the Normandy public who supported me throughout this stage, and also a big thank you to all my team-mates.

The first stage into Normandy was a nervous one, with a sideways wind for the first 100 kilometres of the race. I'd like to salute all the riders in the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team who did their job. We had some ambitions at the start of this stage in Amiens. Kévin was put in a very good position and the riders were placed where they needed to be. It's all down to the leg in the final climb. Visma and UAE went up the final bumps almost in a sprint. The only regret was that Kévin stayed five seconds behind the leading group. He set a time in the last five kilometres. If he'd been in contact, he could have taken a breather and approached the finish differently. But this is the Tour, he's in contact with the very best and he's still wearing the white jersey of best young rider this Tuesday evening. Now it's time for the first individual time trial on home soil, in Caen.
