Vuelta a España (stage 8), Cristián Rodríguez: "I will try again"

Third mountain stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España, and second breakaway for Cristián Rodríguez, who was virtual race leader for a few minutes.

Cristián Rodríguez

“I’m feeling good, I’ve had a good feeling since the start of the Vuelta Ciclista a España. My team-mates are doing a great job for me. Thank you for your commitment. I was part of today’s breakaway, but unfortunately there were too many of us at the front. We couldn’t hear each other and we were riding in fits and starts, with attacks to try and break up the group. I tried to jump into the moves that were forming as the attacks went on, we took our time, but it always ended up coming back from behind. Jumbo-Visma rode behind us because they wanted the stage and the jersey. I was virtual leader for a few moments in the race, but this evening I’ve got nothing. I’m going to try my luck again by getting into the breakaways. My objective is still to try and win a stage in this Vuelta Ciclista a España, rather than the overall classification”.

Sébastien Hinault, sports director

“Cristián was on the attack again on this third mountain stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a España. But there were thirty riders at the front, and they never got on well. The breakaway riders kept attacking each other, and behind them, the Jumbo-Visma riders were riding for both the stage and the red jersey. Cristián will continue to push forward in this Vuelta Ciclista a España. His objective is to try and win a stage. I also expect some of his team-mates to show such attacking cycling over the coming days that we’ll also see them in breakaways at the front.”
