On the line

“The stage was very competitive at all levels of the race. It took a while for the breakaway to emerge. I managed to catch it, and then a second group of riders came back on us. At that point, the number of riders at the front was substantial. The climb to the Observatorio de Astrofisico de Javalambre was decisive, as expected. I gave it everything I had to get this eighth place. My objective remains to chase stages, and if the opportunity arises again, I’ll try my luck by getting back into the breakaway”.

The debrief’

“2nd mountain stage, and Cristiân Rodriguez confirms his excellent climbing skills by taking 8th place at the summit of the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre. He had been in the lead all day and made a fine last climb, but the leaders’ teams, notably Jumbo-Visma, were represented at the front. Cristiàn made a fine comeback in the overall classification, and is now 21st. But our objective is still to win the stage. The only downside of the day was the crash of Kévin Vauquelin, who suffered abrasions to his hip and right elbow ».
