David Dekker 8th in Martigues

David Dekker took 8th place, in the sprint, in Martigues, while Raúl García Pierna grabbed a few seconds which allowed him to move back to 10th place in the general classification.

“The day was difficult with this weather, the rain throughout the stage. The finale was quick, it was perilous at the end at the entrance to the city, the roads were winding, not to mention all the urban developments. Raúl took seconds before the race times were frozen five kilometers from the finish. He was placed back in the provisional general classification. I tried to position myself as best as possible during the sprint. It wasn’t perfect, but I’m satisfied to start the season with a first sprint, and to place 8th in Martigues.”

Yvon Ledanois, directeur sportif

“These weather conditions are difficult for the entire peloton, not just for the riders of the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team. I asked my people to be involved, to be well positioned within the peloton throughout the day. These instructions were respected. I saw my runners smiling after the stage on the team bus, and that’s the most important thing. They understood that it was easier to run in front than behind, and this is a good lesson for them. Raul managed to grab a few seconds in the general classification. Whatever is taken is good to take, and we will make the final assessment only on Sunday evening. What is certain is that every step will count, and it started with this one.”
