Kévin Vauquelin, who was very strong on Sunday, tried everything he could on the Les Herbiers course, but the race came down to a sprint in a small group. He came 3rd.

At the start of the race, the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team was very solid to restore the situation, which was not in our favour. My team-mates rode hard so that we could catch the breakaway. That meant I didn't have to put a single pedal down, and I was able to conserve my energy. Groupama-FDJ was outnumbered. At the moment, I didn't want to see blue jerseys any more, because they were everywhere. I had a lot of strength today and I think I was among the best. I believed in myself in the sprint, but at one point the heat limited me a bit. I should have believed in myself more and thrown earlier. But that's sport. I'm pleased that Dorian Godon won because he's a fine person, who deserves credit and who doesn't get talked about too much. There are no regrets. I'd like to thank the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team for helping me and getting the race back on track after the big breakaway of over thirty riders. I feel fresh at the finish. The race wasn't hard enough for me, despite the heat, and that's what may leave me with a touch of regret, the fact that I didn't cross the line completely dead. But I was really too focused on this French Championship.

A French championship, a podium. We didn't come here for that, especially as we were out for revenge after Kévin's crash in the time trial. 3rd in a French Championship is good, but we're not satisfied with that! We were in a tricky situation at the start of the race with a big breakaway that included many of the favourites for this French Championship in Les Herbiers. The ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team showed its strength and solidarity, and was able to turn the situation around and put Kévin back in contention for victory. After that, he was a little on his own in the final against Groupama-FDJ and Décathlon-AG2R, who were outnumbered and took the first two places on the podium.
