The first stage of the Tour was nervous and windy. Kévin Vauquelin caught up with the group, who went on to claim victory in the final stage after riding along the edge of the pack.

The whole race was very nervous, and the final was the same scenario. I stayed at the front of the pack as much as possible, trying to help Arnaud and Amaury as much as possible, as well as the whole team. Unfortunately Arnaud got caught, but I managed to take the right move. I wanted to try something in the final, as a finisher, but it was going really too fast, and above all the sprinters still had a lot of “manpower” around them.

With the wind on the side, the leaders in the general ranking were under pressure. We didn't have much of a margin. That's the way the Tour is. It was a nervous race, with every place in the peloton. It's always very important to be well placed, but it's the 180 riders who want to be at the front, and in the end it gets faster and faster. But that's the game. I'm going to recover well now. I also wanted to get to the front to take the polka-dot jersey, but one thing's certain, I'll be back in front again in this Tour de France.

There was a lot of tension today, but we're pleased that we weren't caught up in the crashes. Arnaud wasn't able to sprint. He was well placed throughout the race by his team-mates, but unfortunately he dropped back a bit when it happened. But he's not the only sprinter in that situation. He showed a lot of commitment and desire. Other opportunities will present themselves to him. Kévin is in the leading group, and there are several favourites who are trapped. The general classification isn't our objective, it's the stages, but it's good for morale, especially as there are stages with a puncheur's profile coming up that could suit him, notably tomorrow in Boulogne-sur-Mer.
