Itzulia Basque Country (1st stage), Cristian Rodriguez 7th overall
Cristián Rodriguez escaped from the first stage of the Itzulia Basque Country, but he took a bonus, which allows him to be 7th in the provisional overall classification of the UCI WorldTour Basque event this evening.

“The objective was to have one of our riders in front when the breakaway was going to be formed. It would have been better if there were more of them in front, but you don’t choose. Cristián tried to do the best climber classification, but he was overtaken by one of his companions in the breakaway. He takes a bonus which allows him to be 7th in the provisional overall classification. It’s always good to start on a good basis, to be offensive and to have a good momentum. There are still five stages to go and we want to get a result, why not tomorrow on a stage that could be good for our riders”.
