Clément Russo: "The Eurométrople Tour can favour a sprint"

Clément Russo talks about the Eurometropole Tour that he will ride tomorrow, and looks back at Sunday’s road World Championships.

“After the road World Championships in Flanders, I will be racing the Eurométropole Tour with the Arkéa-Samsic team. Of course I have great memories of Sunday. My role with Julian was to protect him, to accompany him as far as possible without him getting winded or breaking so that he could tackle the final of this World Championship with a maximum of freshness.  This success will remain in my mind and in the minds of many people for a long time, we have lived an exceptional moment. I am happy to have been able to live this victory alongside Julian. After the race I stayed in Belgium for the Eurometropole Tour. This is a race that I have ridden twice in my career, with two different courses each time. Tomorrow’s course will be my first participation in this event. Nacer is in our squad and we will play his card in case of a sprint. After that we know from experience that races in Belgium can be very unpredictable, so we will have to be careful. I think that tomorrow there will be a lot of people, not as many as in the World Cup, but in this country cycling is one of the most important sports and we are always very well received by the fans.

The briefing

“The Eurométropole Tour is a race that on paper can be won in a sprint, even if on the final route the riders will climb Mont Saint Aubert several times. This is the only place that can allow attacks and make sure that the race doesn’t end in a final package. Now many of the teams involved have sprinters in their ranks and can control the race, we are part of those teams but we also have assets in our squad in case of movements too”.
