Louis Rouland: “Building on the momentum of the Tour”

Louis Rouland finished fifth in Lélex Monts-Jura and also occupies fifth place in the provisional overall standings of the Tour de l’Ain.

The stage took a long time to get going, it took a while to settle down. There was a big start to the race, and we all rode together. When the difficulties began, Visma Lease a Bike set a fast pace. The best riders broke away. I was in the third group, but I managed to catch up with the second group at the top of Menthières. I agreed with Cofidis to ride together because we were stuck with two big groups in front of us and behind us: Décathlon-AG2R and Visma. I tried to sprint as hard as I could, but I lacked a bit of freshness because I had ridden before. Everyone suffered from the heat, and that's a factor that will play a role again tomorrow. This 5th place is mine, but it rewards the whole ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team. We're on a roll at the moment. I'd like to thank my teammates for their hard work. Kévin Vauquelin's Tour de France paved the way for us, and we all want to do our bit for the team."

I'm proud of the red and black team on this mountain stage! Louis's top 5 finish in Lelex is a great performance, given the field. He rode hard in the final stretch, both to close in on the leaders and to pull away from the riders behind him. Louis received support from the Cofidis team. After that, it was up to Visma and Décathlon-AG2R to not ride. I am proud of all the riders from the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team competing in this Tour de l'Ain. Everyone did the job they were asked to do. This performance will give him confidence both physically and mentally, because when you look at the top 10 here, there are some really good riders up there with him. But I really want to emphasize the team effort, because Louis shone because all the riders worked for him.
