3rd in Emmetten, Kévin Vauquelin retained the leader's jersey on the eve of the final stage of the Tour de Suisse.

"I shouldn't have started so far back. If I'd waited longer, I could have won the stage. I think there were better things to do. But that's sport. I'm obviously disappointed. That's the downside of this day. Congratulations to João, in any case! I'm 3rd on the stage of a week-long World Tour race, after having finished in a number of places of honour, and we're almost at the end of this event, on a difficult stage to boot. You have to look at it that way, and take the positive side of this great week. Tomorrow's time trial? It's possible if I try really hard mentally. João took a few seconds off me with the bonuses awarded at the end of the stage. I have to believe in myself tomorrow, and those who have been hammering me about this for several days will recognise this. That I have no doubts. I'm going to give it my all, even if it means breaking through a glass ceiling. I've got a lot of motivation, a lot of expectations, and tomorrow I need to be confident. It's going to be a match between me and myself, so to speak.

"The race was fast, with the peloton breaking in two at the start of the stage. Team ARKEA-B&B HOTELS managed the situation well. The breakaway came out and everything regrouped. Martin rode hard to maintain the gap. In the final, Kévin was helped by Mathis, then by Ewen, who was on the counter with other riders just behind Kévin's group. At one point we thought that Ewen and the riders with him were going to make the break. But it didn't happen. Kévin attacked on the flat. He seized the opportunity presented to him. He was caught on the line. His attack didn't work. But I prefer a rider who tries, who goes on the offensive, rather than a rider who stays on the sidelines. We're disappointed, if it had worked out we'd have been ecstatic. But what panache from Kévin. What we've been experiencing since the Tour of Switzerland is magnificent. Now it's on to the final time trial tomorrow, which we're already focused on.
