The young Breton from the continental development structure finished just off the podium in the Flemish classic after a race full of panache.

It was only my second day of racing after breaking my elbow on the Route Adelaide. In this classic, Ghent Wevelgem Espoir, I felt pretty good. It was a pedal race, just the way I like it. I found myself in an initial counter-attack, the peloton came back on us for the first time, then the four of us set off again in a strong group. I tried in the last kilometre but it didn't work out for me. What I'll remember most of all is that, for a comeback, I'm playing for the win in a classic that was at a very high level.

Baptiste Gillet's 4th place in Ghent Wevelgem, which was only his second race after his injury on the Route Adelie, was an excellent performance for him individually, but also collectively for the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS continental development team. The team has made its mark on this classic. We wanted a scenario like this, and it was Baptiste who came out on top. We would obviously have liked a podium finish, or even a win. But 4th is still a very good performance in this very tough U23 classic. A lot of teams were trapped, but not us. We've got a good feel for what we're doing, and that's very encouraging for the rest of the season.
