‘I felt good today and really enjoyed this stage. I know that you have to be at the front of the pack to be able to link up the difficulties. I got away on the 2nd climb of the day and then two of us went into a breakaway with Stine Dale. On the last climb, I went off on my own. I would have liked to have gone on alone a bit further, but unfortunately the finish was too flat for me. I’m very happy to be wearing this QOM jersey. Now, you have to keep things in perspective: this is only the first stage, there are two more to go, with steeper and narrower climbs where positioning will be essential.’

‘I’m pleased with the spirit of the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team today. We were told that the riders had to be aggressive on this very tough UCI Women’s World Tour event. From kilometre 0, we tried with Maaike Coljé and then Anaïs Morichon. Unfortunately, the moves never really took. A lot of teams wanted to be in the race. Then, on the 2nd climb of the day, Valentina Cavallar pedalled away. She went into the lead at the top of this difficulty. She broke away for around 30 kilometres before being caught again after the final climb. The mountain classification jersey that she picked up rewards the great mentality of the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team today’.
