Lukasz Owsian finished 8th in the Troféo Calvia, 1st round of the Challenge Mallorca. Warren Barguil took an encouraging 12th place.

On the line

Roger had told us that we should only move if a big breakaway formed. Three riders broke away at the beginning of the race and we stayed in the peloton with Movistar and Lotto in control. On the Col du Soller, Lotto made a big tempo, Warren and Elie followed the attacks that came afterwards and a good group formed. At one moment I was in front, a rider made a hole and I went in. We were now a group of about 10 riders but we couldn’t hear each other, there were many attacks. I had good legs. I made a mistake in the sprint by misjudging the distance in the final. That’s what sprinting is all about, making a decision in a few seconds, and this time it was the wrong one. I am now focused on the races to come“.

The debrief

“McNulty’s big performance in this first round of the Challenge Mallorca. He won solo, resisting a strong group of riders including Lukasz, who took 8th place in this Trofeo Calvia. Warren, who finished just behind this group, was 12th, an encouraging result for his comeback race. Elie also made a good comeback and was part of the group of 29 riders chasing behind McNulty, who broke away after a few kilometres“.
