Mathis Le Berre is the new leader of the KOM classification

Two days of racing and two days in a row in the breakaway for Mathis Le Berre, who takes the polka dot jersey tonight at the top of the Col de la Loge. Clément Champoussin is 8th in the stage, and 5th in the provisional overall classification after two stages.

‘I was motivated to get back to the front today. Once I’d escaped I had two objectives: to win the stage and to go for the polka-dot jersey in this Critérium du Dauphiné. There were five of us and the breakaway group I was in was a strong one. We were a bit short. But it was a good day for the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team and for me with this polka dot jersey obtained in a race like the Critérium du Dauphiné. This distinctive jersey is important because this race is at World Tour level with some great riders at the start, and I went out and got it by being at the front for two days’.

‘The last two climbs of the day skimmed the peloton. There weren’t many of them when we got to the finish line, which was shrouded in fog. I took part in the sprint. I finished 8th. It’s good for my confidence for the days ahead in this race. Today’s stage was very hilly. This is only the second stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. The hardest part is still to come, but it’s reassuring to see that the legs are responding well’.

Sébastien Hinault, sports director

‘The polka dot jersey is the reward of the day, but our initial aim was to win the stage. We know that on this kind of day, a breakaway can go all the way. It didn’t take much to make that happen. Winning a stage is the credo of this week’s Critérium du Dauphiné for the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team. If we want to win here, that’s how we’ll get there. Clément Champoussin did a good sprint at the finish. He came 8th. We know that Clément can be good at this type of finish. He showed that, and he can do even better. This puts him back in fifth place in the provisional overall rankings. It gives him confidence and also makes him realise that he’s strong’.
