Hugo Hofstetter: "The Samyn, I've been racing it since my professional debut”

“The Grand Prix Samyn is above all a cobbled race, which includes a lot of sectors and like any other Flemish race it is very hard. It is a competition that I really appreciate, I have ridden it every year since I was a professional rider. I have always improved my result and I was happy to win this race. It wasn’t a small victory, and it was good. It keeps growing year after year with more and more of a big field at the start. The World-Tour teams are coming to the Samyn more and more, and it’s clear that I hope to win it a second time. What do I like about the races in the North? It’s a combination, in fact, but above all they are events that suit me because they require you to be well placed, to know how to rub well, and I think that I gain a lot of energy on these events that require you to keep as much energy as possible until the strategic places, in the money-time as they say. It is often the freshness that speaks at the end of the race in this type of competition. The other key factor is also the weather, I don’t mind racing when it’s cold either and all these factors combined mean that I manage to do well in the Flandriennes.

The briefing
“The Grand Prix Samyn is welcoming more and more big teams, and for me the level of this race will be similar to Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne. We have some good cards with Hugo Hofstetter and Amaury Capiot, while Kévin Vauquelin could be a great discovery in this type of race. We will start with the intention of getting a good result in this one-day event, which is very important for us. The particularity of this race is the number of cobbled sectors proposed, as well as the mileage which this year passes the 200 km mark. This will be an important fact. We can expect a race of movement, it is often played out in the last two laps, and often the win is decided between twenty or so riders in a sprint
