‘It was a Dantesque stage! It rained throughout the race and it was chaotic. I had good legs. When I got to the front I tried to get a gap, because things weren’t going so well with the Italian riders. I’d like to thank Julian Alaphilippe, who supported me and gave me a last stint when he was ‘dead’. He’s an immense champion. I’d like to thank him. I’ve reached a level here that I’ve never experienced before. I’m still discovering myself and I’m here in the third week of a Grand Tour. It bodes well for the future, and I hope to get some more good results between now and the end of the Giro d’Italia.’

‘Laurent Pichon and I told the riders that it didn’t change anything, that it was still a stage of the Giro that might have been shortened but was still beautiful, and above all that the challenge was the same. It was very difficult to get out on the flat, but then it all came naturally. Michel and Ewen were in front and Michel dropped back. Ewen found himself in front. In the final, we should have had more margin to hope to win. What I can say is that Ewen rode a great race, coming 9th in the Monte Pana. Wednesday will be the 17th stage of the Giro d’Italia, and like every day, we’ll be resetting the counters’.
