“This last stage was difficult with many climbs. I was 5th overall before this stage and I had high hopes for this day with the objective of a podium. I also had the ambition to do well for my teammates from the ARKEA – B&B HOTELS team who did a lot of work for me throughout the week. Jean Loup prepared me perfectly to attack at the bottom of the final climb. This is what I did. I was in a good place but that’s when I started to make the wrong decisions. I probably thought too much about the victory sometimes when in reality I should have started thinking about the podium. I finished 8th. the stage and 5th overall when the podium was possible I am disappointed with the decisions I made today and also for the team. Even if a 5th place in the general classification is positive, I hoped for better. I hope we can use this week’s teamwork as a good example for the next races and I will make sure not to make the same mistakes.”

Maxime Bouet, Directeur sportif

“We had a complicated day with a succession of events that did not work in our favor. We first lost Martin Tjotta due to a racing incident on a descent. Before this last stage, he was 4th in the general classification and one of the favorites for the final podium. The ARKEA – B&B HOTELS team then lost a great chance to do well overall. Then, Embret Svestad-Bårdseng finished 8th in the last stage which placed him 5th overall. He had bad luck and made tactical errors which probably deprived him of the stage podium and the overall. But that’s also our reason for being within the continental development team: training. 5th is a good place but we are disappointed because there was room to do better. I would like to underline the great state of mind of the collective throughout the week and congratulate Jean-Loup Fayolle who did a great job for Embret on this last stage.”
