“The finale was very technical at Le Touquet-Paris Plage, the end of this first stage of the 4 Days of Dunkirk. There is chaos and the race was even more tense with the rain. It is never easy to find yourself at the key moment in a sprint. But we were good today collectively, we just had bad luck with the fall of Arnaud Démare. In fact, it was when we regrouped, after we had done the work to put it back together, that it fell. It’s not easy to live with because we had a great card to play with Arnaud for this arrival at Touquet-Paris Plage. I was superbly placed by Florian Dauphin in the finale. I placed 4th, and if Arnaud had still been with us it wouldn’t have been the same.”

“We tried things on this first stage of the 4 Days of Dunkirk, because we want to be active in this race. Arnaud fell in the final of this first stage, and obviously there was disappointment because it was his resumption, and he was not able to express himself. But that’s part of the race. Amaury ranks 4th in this stage. It’s the little corner of blue sky compared to the Arnaud Falls. We’ll hang on to this, and tomorrow will be another day. These are an interesting 4 Days of Dunkirk compared to the proposed race profile, and there are still five great stages to go. The race is very open, and nothing is written yet.”
