Kévin Vauquelin takes yellow

4th in the 5th stage of the Tour de Suisse, Kévin Vauquelin has donned the yellow leader's jersey. He has a lead of 29 seconds over Julian Alaphilippe and 39 over João Almeida.

"This is my very first leader's jersey in a WorldTour event. I'd like to thank all my team-mates for the work they've done since the start of this Tour of Switzerland. They're really exceptional, like Ewen Costiou, who rode between the two climbs of Castaneda at the head of the peloton. I'm feeling really good at the moment, and I'm just reaping the rewards of several years' work, which is starting to pay off. I'd also like to thank my coaches who have worked so hard to make this happen. I didn't have as much experience as some of the riders when I started out in the pros, and I didn't have the same career path as them because I hadn't necessarily competed in any major races in the youth categories. Now I feel I've turned a corner, and I'm very happy about that. I wasn't racing Romain on this stage. I knew that today was going to be a big day, the hardest stage of this Tour de Suisse, so I had to think about myself and the effort I had to put in. "Kévin Vauquelin and the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team had a great race in this Tour of Switzerland. Everyone is to be congratulated, all the riders were there to support Kévin when he needed it. Kévin rode very well over the first pass, surrounded by his team-mates Martin, Alessandro and Mathis, and they were still there when he climbed the second. UAE set the pace all day.
