Young Breton Pierre Thierry spent the day at the front on his way to Montluçon, and was voted the most combative rider on this first stage. Clément Venturini came 8th in the stage sprint behind ‘a royal breakaway’.

It turned out as we'd imagined, that is to say that it was active in the final. On the other hand, I hadn't imagined that it would be the contenders for the overall classification who would be active. But it's really the riders who are driving the race. It goes all the way to the end for very little. Behind, I tried to position myself. I was really helped by the whole ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team. I scored a top 10 finish. There are still opportunities to be seized.

The aim was to be in the breakaway and to try and get a jersey if possible. The first objective was achieved, as Pierre Thierry was in the breakaway. For the second, we were beaten by a stronger group. Then, in the final, the aim was to help Clément Venturini in the event of a sprint finish. And that's exactly what happened. He finished 8th behind a royal breakaway of five riders in the final. With Clément's 8th place and Pierre's fighting spirit award for his day at the front, the team behaved well. We're going to build on these points for the future.
